Summer
With Summer right around the
corner, I would like to remind all of our visitors and
families that all teachers
have the summer off to enjoy themselves. During the summer,
we have one Sunday School
class for ages 5-10. We will meet in a classroom in the
Myrtle Fillmore Education
Building (Willow School) each Sunday at 11:00 am. Uniteens
(ages 11-13) and Y.O.U.ers
(age 14-18) have the summer off. Having said that, any
Uniteens or Y.O.U.ers who
would like to join the Sunday School class
to “help” are always welcome. There will still be childcare
for infants and pre-schoolers
with Miss Diane.
At this time, I would like to thank all of the many teachers and
helpers who have made this
year possible. It has been a tremendous year of Spiritual growth for all of us,
and I appreciate so much the
loving commitment made to our children and youth by way of giving
of your time, talent and
treasure.
Our next Family Sunday will
be June 29th. I hope that many of
our families will be involved, helping us to create an
awesome experience
that will bless or entire congregation as well as our children.
Judy Graziosi, Youth
Education Director
Parent Visitation
I want to encourage any parents and guardians to feel free to visit our Sunday
School classes, childcare or teen classes on any Sunday. I have experienced many
youngsters of all ages over the years who seem to feel anxiety about separating
from their parents and joining a group where they don’t know anyone. Unlike
school, it’s not the “law” that children attend Sunday School, so when this
stress shows up - I know it is easier to just take the child into church or even
stay home.
Because I’ve held the Youth Ed Dir. position for so many years (over 10!) I have
not only been able to experience this situation myself with my own daughter, but
I’ve gotten to see what works - what doesn’t work - and why it’s so important to
‘work it out’. It is our job as parents to help our children deal with their
anxiety in a safe, nurturing, supportive environment. What could be better than
Sunday School? So, take small steps - there’s no need to argue - and try joining
your child in Sunday School a few times until they are familiar. We are happy to
work with you on this, and in the end it will be well worth the time and effort.

Diane Manera, serves as our Caregiver for
childcare during church and at special functions. Diane’s job is to watch
children who are too young (or immature) to
attend children’s classes or go to church with their parents.

UNIKIDS is our class for the youngest Unity
children. This class uses the “What A Wonderful World” curriculum published by
Unity Village along with Coco the Wonderbear puppet. The appropriate age range
for this class is kindergarten through second grade. Some children may be ready
to begin at a younger age while others are not. As a parent, you will know when
your child can begin by how able they are to sit and listen and follow simple
instructions. If you have questions about whether or not your child is ready,
please ask Miss Diane or myself (Miss Judy).
Our
next age group is UNIFRIENDS , and this class will be in the middle classroom in
the MFEB. The age range for this class is third - fifth grades. Among the
lessons taught to this class will be the Five Unity Principles, Making Peace and
our 12 Powers.
The final class held in the MFEB is UNITEENS . This class is for kids age 11-
13, or middleschool. These youngsters meet in the classroom closest to the
playground. They study the 5 book curriculum series called “Uniteens Life
Issues”. Uniteens also get to enjoy 2 trips per year called “Uniteen Retreats”
where we travel as a group to Live Oak, FL to join about 100 other Uniteens.
Wanda Welsh, Assistant Youth Education Director
Our oldest age group are the Y.O.U.ers, which stands for Youth of Unity. These
are our 14-18 year olds. This group meets in the classroom across from the
bathrooms in the main church building. The sponsors for this group are Linda
Ware & Glenn Ferdinand. This group of teens goes to 2 rallies per year, a week
long camping trip called, “Summer Connection” in N. Carolina and a five day
Y.O.U. Conference at Unity Village.
